The mission of the Graded Sports Entrepreneurship Club (GSE) is to turn theory into practice. The club uses the belief that hands-on activities have the power to promote learning, especially in the areas of entrepreneurship, journalism and communications, sports management, and marketing.
I believe that the learning process is subjective, and people require different techniques to optimize their learning. It is under the understanding that what works for one person might not be the best for another that GSE was found. Speaking for myself, I definitely recognize this as a high schooler who has experienced an array of teaching styles. This understanding is one of the pillars of this club. I wanted to provide students with the chance to experience and develop some of the skills that different business-related professions require while offering them a variety of means to learn them. At the same time, these experiences would be focused on sports and entrepreneurship, areas that resonate with the best moments of my life until now.
One of the greatest assets of GSE was the chance to offer students direct experience in the area of business, which, until then and for many, was only a concept. In this way, GSE offers direct experience in different areas of business so that Graded high schoolers can better determine what area they want to pursue. The fact that I was exposed to a pre-business course at American Heritage School in Florida also helped me design the structure and content of the club.
When I was creating GSE, I thought it would be crucial to consider all possible areas of business such as management, finances, journalism, and marketing, just to name a few. With this in mind, I designed the sectors of GSE in such a way that would offer participants the opportunity to gain direct experience from each of these areas. The idea was that this aspect of the club would enable students to make more informed decisions about their majors when applying to college. So, another factor that I gave a great deal of consideration to was aligning the hands-on activities for each branch with their sectors since that is where the learning would happen.
In the end, the club was formed under three branches, management, marketing, and journalism. Without further ado, I invite you to surf through the site and check out the many activities and events that GSE promotes or participates in!
Enjoy!
